Intro To Boudoir Wardrobe

If you’re like most of our clients, you have a least a few questions about what you should wear for your session. Most of us aren’t used to dressing for photoshoots
(especially in our undies), and it can be hard to decide what to wear. We created this guide to answer some of the common lingerie questions we hear and help
you get a sense of your options as you’re planning for your session. We hope this information empowers you to make choices that feel true to who you are.

How Many Outfits Should I Bring

Our standard session time allows for up to 4 outfits to be photographed. You can always bring more outfits and we will help you narrow down. If you’re having
trouble finding options you love, that’s ok too! We have an entire client wardrobe for you to borrow from. Just in case, we recommend that you bring at least
a couple of outfits that you like and that fit well. And if you need any additional help while shopping, feel free to reach out to us!

More About Our Client Wardrobe

We have an amazing client wardrobe you may borrow from for your session with over 100 pieces to choose from (sizes XS - 6X) and includes lingerie, sweaters,
robes, corsets, and body jewelry. If you think you might like to utilize our client wardrobe for your session, please let us know ahead of time. Note, underwear must
be worn underneath and any borrowed pieces are thoroughly washed and sanitized between uses. Our client wardrobe is entirely optional.

What Colors Are Best For Boudoir?

This is mostly about what you love and what feels like you! Think about the feeling a color conveys: neutrals feed grounded, bright colors feel lively, pale colors
feel soft, deep colors feel bold and dramatic. Solid colors let the focus be more on you while patterns add a little fun pizazz! Add variety with a mix of fabric
and textures like silk, linens, lace, etc. Feel free to play with extras like body jewelry, garters, fish nets…the list goes on!

How Much Skin Should I Show?

As you prepare for your session, consider how much skin you’re comfortable showing in your portraits. Remember, there is no wrong answer! No matter what type of
energy you bring to your session, we are here to fan your flame. Your session can be fun, flirty, cozy, sexy, candid, erotic...the list goes on. We’ve photographed clients in
everything from a cozy PJ set or oversized sweater and leg warmers all the way to full nudity. Keep in mind that you’ll likely feel more comfortable than you might anticipate
once you arrive, get all dolled up, and start warming up during the session so we do recommend bringing outfits options on both ends of the spectrum, just in case!

While its completely optional, many of our clients do opt to skip wardrobe entirely for at least one look, channeling elegant vibes and celebrating the power of being comfortable
in their own skin. There are many options on the spectrum of nudity including full nude, implied nude (fully nude with blanket or posing covering pubic/breast areas), fine art
topless (showing breasts artfully with coverage of pubic area), and implied topless (wear underwear but skip the bra, nipple area covered with blankets/arms). You’re also
welcome to wear sheer items! Keep in mind that may mean your nipples or body hair are visible, which is simply up to your preference. Note, we don’t edit out
nipples/visible hair, so if you’d prefer those not to show, stick to a more opaque fabric or bring along stick-on nipple covers.

To Tan or Not To Tan?

If you regularly spray or bed tan and love the results - feel free to get your glow on. However, if you don’t typically tan this is not the best time to try something new that
you may not love and can’t be undone. If you do spray tan, please go to a professional custom spray tan salon and make sure they watch the under butt and under
boob areas!Do not apply self tanning cream, spray, lotion, etc. Streaky tans, harsh lines, and peeling skin are difficult to edit out so please avoid these issues and
go to a professional or forego the tan and embrace your natural, beautiful skin!

Free yourself from beauty standards

This is the time to wear outfits that you love and celebrate your favorite features.
When choosing your outfits ask yourself two questions: Does it feel true to you? Do you love
how you look in it? If you answer yes to both, it’s a winner! There are no official rules when it
comes to what to wear for a boudoir session but in this guide we’ll give you plenty of suggestions and advice. That said, absolutely nothing about boudoir is one size fits all - this experience is all about you! Ultimately, what you wear for you session should reflect who you are and what you love about yourself, in this moment in time. Give yourself permission to let go of what society
tells you is beautiful or what you think boudoir outfits should be.

Where Do I Buy Lingerie?

It’s time to pamper yourself! When shopping for any lingerie (especially something fitted or supportive like a bra), proper sizing is important. If you can, we suggest shipping
somewhere with staff who can help you get correctly fitted and provide recommendations. If you’re browsing online, some of our favorites shops are listed below. Keep in mind
there is a wide variety of price range and quality from these shops but this will give you a wide range of options to look through!

Our Favorite Styles

Body Suites and Teddies: These are our #1 recommendation for boudoir! These fit like a one piece swimsuit and when you find one that fits well, they’re extremely
flattering, comfortable, and photography beautifully. You can find casual bodysuits in solid, soft cotton or go for something dramatic with lace or a bold color.

Bras and Underwear Sets: A well fitted bra and panty set is a solid color is a simple, lovely option. Go for a balconette bra to show off your cleavage, or a
lace bralette for a soft, romantic look. When it comes to bottoms, cheeky or bikini styles emphasize curves, while high waisted styles feel fun
and vintage, while drawing attention to your waist.

Nighties, Slips, Chemises, and Negligees: These fit like a dress and are usually short and around hip length, but they come in longer styles as well. There’s a
wide variety of options here depending on fabric/color/detailing, from super soft cotton to dramatic sheer lace. A word of caution: A “babydoll” is
another style of nightie with a lightweight skirt that starts right under the bust. We generally recommend avoiding these as they tend
to be less flattering in boudoir portraits because their skirts hide the natural waistline.

Bustier + Corsets: These are more structured than a bodysuit and typically have built in support similar to a bra, extending down to the waist or hips.
They are designed to shape the torso and often have vertical boning for support, with lace up the back to cinch the waist.
If you’re drawn to something that feels extravagant or a little vintage inspired, these can be a great choice.

Garter Belts and Garters: A garter belt is worn around the waist or hips over underwear and has attached garters or fasteners to hold up thigh high stockings.
You can also wear a garter belt without stockings (just let the garters hang) for a more relaxed, undressed look.

Stockings: There are two types of stockings. The “Stay Up” stockings have a rubber lining on top and are not meant to be used with garters.
These are best paired with a dramatic bra/underwear set. If you’d like to wear these, we suggest getting them 1-2 sizes too big so that the
rubber will lay flat against your leg as these can be very tight and cut into the thigh at the top, which isn’t best for photographing. Stockings
without the rubber lining are meant to be used with garters in order to stay up and will not stay up on their own.

Tights: Channel your inner bad girl and throw on some fishnets tights paired with a sassy crop top, or bring out your glam
with jeweled tights. Make sure to get the right size so they don’t dig into your skin.

Bra Styles

Bralette: A lightweight, unlined bra. Natural and romantic.

Demi-Cup Bra: Also called a balconette bra, covers the bottom half of the breast and provides lift/support.
Very flattering on most body types!

Long Line Bra: The bottom of the bra extends down to the waist for extra support and a bit of vintage inspired flair.
Especially awesome if you love your waist!

T-Shirt Bra: An everyday style with a smooth, unembellished exterior to fit seamlessly under a t-shirt. These can work well
if you’re going for a relaxed, casual boudoir sessions style, or can be dressed up with a silk robe or lacy underwear.

Push-Up Bra: Provides lift and padding - great if you’re looking for extra cleavage or want to fill out the top of your bra;
not the bestif you’re going for a more natural style. Word of caution: it can be difficult to find a push-up bra that fits well.
We recommend going to a local lingerie ship for a fitting if you want this style of bra.

Underwear Styles

Cheeky: Medium coverage with more coverage in the front and less fabric in the back to show off the
bottom of the tush. If you love your butt, these will make it look awesome.

Bikini: Medium coverage with higher cut sides to show off your legs.
A bikini with lace trim can be very flattering to your bum.

Thong: Less coverage overall. Because they are so minimal on the sides,
they often sit high on the hips making legs look longer.

Boy Short: Lots of coverage and good if you’re looking for a strong/sporty feel in your pictures.
Downside is they can visually shorten/cut off your legs.

High Waisted: Lots of coverage and a slightly vintage vibe. To accentuate an hourglass shape,
aim for a really tall pair that sits at the smallest part of your waist.

G-String: Minimum coverage. Typically not recommended because the straight lines they create draw
the eye instantly but they’re usually not designed to be a focal point. If you’re looking for a minimal
look, we recommend a lace or cotton thong instead.

Beyond Lingerie

Sweaters and Cardigans: Sweaters add texture and cozy vibes into portraits. Long cardigans or ones with wide neck a great for wearing off the shoulder.
They’re great paired with a romantic lace bralette and bottoms or a simple cotton lingerie set.

Robes: One of our favorite pieces to recommend. Robes add layers, personality, and texture. Choose a soft cotton with lace trim in your favorite color,
a large format floral print to add romantic energy, or elegant silk in a jewel tone.

Loungewear: Bring on the relaxed vibes with loungewear. Super soft pjs, off the shoulder t-shirts, or tall socks.

Athletic Inspired: Channel strength and confidence by incorporating some sporty pieces with clean, spring lines for a bold look.
Yoga pants, a sports bra that makes you feel confident, or a fun crop top are great options. Word of caution, we don’t recommend wearing shorts
for a boudoir session as they tend to visually cut off the leg and don’t always photograph well.

Something Fancy: Cocktail dresses, flowing skirts, that bridesmaids dress you actually loved wearing, a tailored power suit, or even a rented evening gown.
Perfect if you want to be able to use that stunning piece in your closet again, or just want an excuse to wear something fabulous for the day.

Everyday Clothing: Do you have a power outfit or favorite first date look? Jean and a a tank top, sundresses, favorite t-shirts, badass jackets - these all bring
a relaxed, casual vibe and can capture an everyday side of yourself. You can also combine lingerie with other items for your closet - try a beautiful bra paired
with a flowing skirt, high waisted jeans and a bralette, for a favorite comfy t-shirt paired with lace bottoms.

Add Flair with Accessories

Faux Fur Blanket: A soft fur blanket is a great boudoir prior for an effortlessly sexy look. Great for a fall or winter session.

Body Jewelry, Chains, and Harnesses: Add edge and glamour to your session. Perfect paired with your favorite sexy lingerie, or to wear on it’s own.

Shoes: Barefoot is a great go to look but if you want to add flair to the session, consider bringing along your favorite sexy high heels. We recommend avoiding
chunkier heels or shoes with ankle straps which can visually shorten your legs.

Wedding Items: Wearing your veil, robe, shoes, jewelry or even bringing along your wedding dress is a romantic and sexy way to celebrate your
engagement, wedding or anniversary. Bridal boudoir shoots are a great wedding or anniversary gift for your partner.

Whips, Chains, and BDSM: If you like an edgier vibe, you can bring along some of your favorite bedroom accessories.
Think leather handcuffs, whips, riding crops, a collar, etc.

Other Props: Flowers, perfume, your favorite necklace, or special accessories your partner has given you can be great for boudoir sessions.

Celebrate Your Favorite Features

Cleavage: Love your boobs? Show them off in a natural way by choosing a sheer lace bralette. You can also draw attention to your cleavage with
a well fitting bra in a bold color or a low cut off the shoulder t-shirt

Bum: We recommend a cheeky bottom since they cut higher to show off more of your tush and emphasize curves in a natural yet bold way.
A form fitting teddy or bodysuit is also a great choice, as are any bottoms with lace detailing or trim.

Shoulders and Collarbones: Draw attention to your shoulders and collarbones by choosing a nightie with delicate straps or detailing around
the neckline, or option for an off the shoulder shirt.

Legs: Want to show off your legs or make them look extra long? Look for bottoms with a high cut - the high the leg opening, the longer
your legs will look. You could also go for a dramatic route with a pair of stockings, high thigh socks, or heels.

Hips and Thighs: A nightie that grazes your thighs will draw attention to the line of the fabric, while a high waisted
cheeky bottom will emphasize the curve of your upper legs.

Stomach: A longline bra will draw attention to the waist (the eye will go to the bottom of the bra), while a crop top paired with a
low cut lace bottom will show off your stomach.

Hourglass Shape: Emphasize your silhouette by sticking with fitted pieces that have a defined waist. A solid color bodysuit in a fitted fabric
like cotton is one of our favorite recommendations to show off curves.

Back: Find a teddy or bodysuit with a low cut back, or opt for an implied topless look with a blanket held in front and an open back.
